Users have found Melio to be a valuable tool for processing recurring ACH transactions with their clients, resulting in significant savings on merchant fees. The platform has also been widely used for daily payments to vendors and managing accounts payable, providing a user-friendly experience for beginners. During the pandemic, some users turned to Melio as a solution to promptly pay vendors when mail delivery was delayed. Additionally, clients have utilized Melio alongside Veem to set up different Accounts Payable apps primarily through ACH, allowing for efficient payment processes.

However, some users encountered issues with Melio, particularly when it stopped working for clients in specific states. This led some users to explore alternative ACH bill payment systems. Furthermore, one user experienced a negative incident where a rent payment was not sent via Melio, resulting in late payments and disputes. Another user found that the platform caused delays in bill payments by frequently requesting proof for each transaction, leading to late fees and added complexities for small business owners.

On the other hand, many users have found Melio helpful in streamlining the vendor payment process, onboarding new vendors seamlessly, and ensuring accurate payment details. Despite these positive experiences, one user had a frustrating encounter with a recurring payment that continued even after cancellation, leading to a lack of confidence in the software's reliability. Overall, the product has shown promise in simplifying payment management tasks for businesses while also presenting some challenges that may require careful consideration.

Prompt Customer Service: Several users have praised the platform for its exceptional customer service. They have mentioned that the platform's support team is prompt in addressing any queries or concerns, providing timely assistance whenever needed.

Easy Payment Tracking: Many reviewers have highlighted the ease of tracking payment status as a major benefit of using the platform. They appreciate how it allows them to stay updated on payment progress effortlessly, making their financial management more efficient.

Convenient Vendor Payment Requests: Users find it convenient to request vendor payment details directly through the platform. This streamlined process saves time and effort by eliminating the need for manual communication and ensures a smoother transaction experience.

Slow transfer times: Several users have expressed frustration with the slow transfer times for payments in Melio. They feel that the process takes longer than expected, causing delays in paying their vendors and affecting their cash flow.

Lack of integration with accounting platforms: Some reviewers have mentioned that Melio's integration with accounting platforms like QuickBooks Desktop is not as seamless as they would like. They feel that there could be better synchronization between the two systems, which would save them time and reduce manual data entry.

Poor communication and customer service: A number of users have had negative experiences with the communication and customer service from Melio. They describe it as terrible, extremely slow, and lacking responsiveness. This has left them feeling frustrated and unsupported when dealing with issues or errors in the system.

Based on user reviews, here are the most common recommendations for Melio:

  • Users highly recommend using Melio for sending payments. It is considered one of the better options for small businesses and offers an easy-to-use app for payment processing.
  • Many users suggest that Melio is the best tool for paying vendors and receiving money. It is particularly useful for businesses with medium to low volume, providing a clean account receivable and payable platform without added cost.
  • Users recommend taking advantage of the integration between Melio and QuickBooks. Syncing these platforms can streamline payment management and improve efficiency.

Overall, users find Melio to be a great platform for small businesses, freelancers, and those with multiple payments to manage in a month. It is suggested as a payment processor for paying vendors, contractors, and managing vendor payments effectively.

We use Melio to receive payment from a few different vendors. A primary client of ours uses them exclusively, and we tried them to allow for ACH payment. Most of our clients use Quickbooks, so we thought this may work well with the integration. It has been an inconsistent and frustrating transition.
  • Provides an integration for ACH and quickbooks
  • notifies you of pending payments
  • In my experience, payments are delivered inconsistently and late
  • In my experience, customer service cannot answer questions or explain timelines
  • In my experience, Instant Transfer is inconsistent and unreliable. The same client has it on 60% on payments
  • 7-10 days to process a transfer regularly causes late fees for the client
I think Melio is a good enough payment processor if you don't want to pay Quickbooks, but Square does everything better.

  • It imports all invoices from quickbooks, but it doesn't close invoices it receives payments for without manual effort. In my opinion, it's a bit clunky

I use Melio on a daily basis to process payments to vendors for my own firm and to manage accounts payable for my clients. Melio makes accounts payable management easy. The platform is easy and intuitive for beginner use and information about payment and vendor status is easy to understand and navigate.
  • Makes it easy to track the status of payments.
  • Makes it easy to request vendor payment details.
  • Integrates well with QBO to make AP management simple.
  • I would like to be able to find the Melio payment ID attached to the payment in QB.
  • Batch processing in QBO causes some important information not to be transferred to the payment.
Melio is well suited for accountants or bookkeepers who process accounts payable for their clients as it integrates well with QBO, is cost-efficient, and easy to use. Whether you process a few or several invoices per day, Melio makes the process very simple to carry out and follow to the end (deposit).
  • Integration
  • Ease of use - for processing payment
  • Cost efficiency
  • Ease of cancelling or making an update to a payment
  • Melio has taken the uncertainty out of AP.
  • It is easy to pick up a client's AP and carry forward with transparency.
  • It is easy to implement because it integrates well and is not expensive.
I prefer Melio over Bill.com. I prefer Melio because it is easier to cancel or correct a payment on the platform. I like the way that Melio lets you track vendor requests for payment information. I like that it is easy to follow the payment all the way through the process to its deposit.

Melio is used to pay all our vendors. It streamlines the process of onboarding new vendors (a common thing in our industry) and allowing for them to enter their correct payment details. Less room for error and less time chasing vendors for their account details to set-up convenient ACH transactions to all of them, no matter what Bank they are with, whether they use Zelle or not etc.
  • Convenience
  • Compatibility with other apps (QuickBooks)
  • Great Customer Service
  • Constantly improving, open to hear customer feedback for new features
  • Feature add: looking forward to seeing the ability to forward an email with a vendor invoice to a specific internal address that automatically uploads invoice into Melio system.
Melio seems very suitable for smaller organizations that don't have big accounting departments
  • Automated collection of payment information from vendor
  • Integration with QuickBooks
  • Ability to pay vendors without fee (as long as ACH without rush payment)
  • Quick and reliable service, saves time
  • Allows great tracking of all outgoing payments

Melio is being used by our accounting and finance department. The business problem it addresses is writing and issuing checks to our vendors. Previously, we used Bill Pay from Chase in combination with ACH and Wire transfers; however, Chase stops providing the Bill Pay functionality. Since the majority of our employees work remotely, it also helps in that I get an email notification when I need to authorize a check. In the past, people would have to come into my office for signatures or we would have to add them as a signer on the bank account.
  • It is a low cost application
  • Very easy to process payments and significantly more efficient than its competitors
  • Very easy to add users and teach them how to use the platform
  • When a check isn't deposited, it stays in the system until a Melio rep reaches out to you.
  • I would like to see greater integration with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks desktop.
  • While bank accounts can be added relatively easily, it would help if you could change the name of the bank account rather than just the account number.
Melio is extremely well suited for companies that are writing checks on a day-to-day basis. It is also well suited for companies that have multiple employees working from home. It may not be as well suited for companies that are issuing very large checks and need to do a better job of managing their account payables.
  • Most of its functionality is free
  • It is easy to add bank accounts and users
  • My employees can send checks with minimal supervision
  • It has saved us countless hours when doing accounting
  • Has enabled us to hire a controller for significantly less than what we would have previously paid
Bill.com is more expensive and more difficult to use than Melio. While it has a greater range of functionality and apparently has better integration into QuickBooks, we didn't need the greater functionality and I had just as much trouble integrating into Bill.com as I have with Melio.
